ENGINEER'S SPECIFICATION
SWIMMING POOL AND SPA PIPE AND VALVE MARKERS, LABELS AND TAGS
General.
The system shall be labeled so that a person who knows little of the system may operate it and service it by reference to the labels. Each individual pipe and valve in the swimming pool system shall for safe and efficient operation be clearly marked and labeled as to source, flow direction, and purpose. All components of the pool labeling system shall be PoolMarker components manufactured by SnapMark, Inc. See www.poolmarkers.com for technical information. Substitutions are not acceptable.
Marker Plates.
The pool labels shall be vinyl and shall be affixed on a flat sign plate surface buffered from the pool pipe. In no event shall the pool labels be affixed directly to rounded pool pipe surface subjecting them to potential erasure, peeling, obliteration, and difficultly in reading. The Marker Plates shall consist of a non-corrosive, non-degradable, non-conductive PVC PoolMarker saddle which transitions in a single piece to a flat Sing Plate surface upon which the pool label is affixed.
Valve Markers.
Each valve shall be marked and labeled with a PoolMarker which labels its function and its relationship, if any, to other valves. Each valve label shall bear a distinct number for that valve in the upper left corner.
Pool Labels.
Pool labels shall be 2.4" x 3.4" self-adhesive vinyl PoolStickers by SnapMark, Inc. Any custom text affixed in the open area on the PoolStickers shall be generated on laminated tape with a portable label printer, or if laminated tape is not available, un-laminated label tape or black permanent marker with a clear plastic SnapShield cover over the label or writing. BrotherŪ hand-held or desktop labelers are acceptable; see www.brother.com or www.brother.com/usa/label/info2/pages/index.html for technical information.
SnapShields.
When completed with text, the vinyl labels shall be covered by a clear PVC PoolMarker SnapShield to protect the label from obliteration, tapering, peeling, staining, fading, and wear.
Operational Manual.
|
Note:Delete this paragraph if you do not wish to call for a manual to be created by the contractor, and the balance of this specification will stand alone as written.Delete this note in either case.
|
Each PoolMarker on each pool pipe circuit and pool valve shall be numbered in the upper left corner and referenced out to an operation and safety manual. The pool or spa system shall be labeled so that a novice may operate and service the system by reference to the labels, and an attendant operational manual which the contractor shall prepare and which shall set forth step-by-step instructions necessary to step through the operational processes by reference to the numbered PoolMarkers. The contractor shall organize the manual by each specific task (e.g., turning the heater on and off, turning the spa on or off, draw only from the main drain , or back-washing the filter), and describe step-by-step how to operate the system by reference back out to specifically-numbered valves.
Location and Placement.
PoolMarkers shall be placed in visible locations and in a logical pattern. Generally, pool pipes and pool valves shall be labeled so as to all be viewed from the same direction or orientation whenever possible.
Each individual pool valve shall be marked with a PoolMarker as to purpose and relationship, if any, to other pool valves:
- immediately above or below the valve, or if impossible, then,
- as close to the valve as possible and in a manner that avoids any confusion with another valve.
Each individual pipe shall be marked with PoolMarkers as to source, and purpose:
- as closely as possible to the point of origin or operation, and
- any additional logical or pertinent locations.
Each individual pipe shall be marked with PoolMarkers depicting the flow direction of the water within the pipe:
- as closely as possible to the point of origin or operation, and
- any additional logical or pertinent locations, and
- intervals of not less than ten (10) feet on open runs of pipe, and
- any location where a viewer of the pipe from a distance of two feet does not have a direct line of sight to the adjacent PoolMarker.
Method of Installation (Permanent or Repositionable).
PoolMarkers firmly grip the pipe and shall not be glued unless necessary in the judgment of the contractor or specified by the engineer. In locations where it is determined desirable to prevent tampering or avoid movement by excessive vibration, PoolMarkers shall be glued in place with ordinary PVC cement in one of two manner:
- For a permanent installation, the inside of the saddle clamp shall be coated with PVC cement, the PoolMarker snapped onto the pipe, and quickly positioned;
- In locations where a subsequently repositionable installation is desired, but tampering or excessive vibration are of concern, PoolMarkers shall be snapped into place and a small bead of PVC cement run along the edge of the saddle clamp where it intersects the pipe, and along the end or edge of the SnapShield where it intersects the PoolMarkers' SignPlate.
