What is PoolMarker™?
PoolMarker is a comprehensive coordinated system of mounting products and methods, LabelPlates™, and adhesive labels which enables you to clearly mark the rounded pipes and valves of swimming pool systems with a flat sign or label.
|
Is PoolMarker™ patented?
Yes in a number of nations, and numerous patents are pending.
|
Is PoolMarker™ trademarked?
Yes, in a number of nations. PoolMarker™ is a registered trademark of SnapMark, Inc. SnapMark, Inc. controls some 15 additional trademarks, and carefully uses these trademarks to distinguish our products as genuine PoolMarker® products.

How can I further shield against UVA rays or other label damage?
The stick-on labels are resistant to bleaching by the sun and many chemicals. In some outdoor applications you may wish to purchase special clear clip-over rigid clear plastic covers for additional UV protection, label protection from damage, staining or wear, or tamper resistance. These are available through this website and some dealers.
|
Why should PoolMarker™ be used over other labeling methods?
Because it's the best.
And because there are no others worth your time.
Labeling in the past has consisted
of direct handwriting on the rounded surface, which is
problematic in many ways. Repairs or replacement of the
underlying pipe or conduit destroys any written
information thereon. Tied-on tags and paper labels are
subject to peeling, corrosion and easy removal. By
itself, permanent marker fades and is hard to find.
Small labels by themselves are hard to find on large
systems. PoolMarkers provide a large flat plastic base
which stands out with the signage then mounted on it.
|
Are the adhesive stickers suitable for outdoor use?
Yes. They are 3.5 mil vinyl plastic (not paper). They use a permanent waterproof adhesive. They have at least a 3 year outdoor rating.
|
Can I print custom wording with my inkjet printer?
This is not recommended. It would work only for very temporary marking in a totally dry and non-sunlit area. Inkjet ink runs immediately when damp or wet and fades rapidly in sunlight.

How do I install PoolMarkers™?
1. Select PoolMarkers for the corresponding size of pipe you are marking.
Most residential swimming pool pipes have 1-1/2" PVC pipe. Some have 2" PVC pipe. Hotel, scholastic, cruise ship, resort, and other institutional swimming pools and spas almost always have 2" pipe or larger.
- On swimming pool systems, PoolMarkers™ are sized to fit both the pipe and the fittings for that size pipe.
- If your pool has 1-1/2" pipe, the 1-1/2" size PoolMarker will fit both the pipe and the fittings for that size pipe.
- If your pool has 2" pipe, the
1-1/2" size PoolMarker will fit both the pipe and the
fittings for that size pipe
2. Simply snap the PoolMarker onto each pipe you want to label, or just below or above each valve you want to label.
In some instances you may desire to mount a PoolMarker in a location where the coupling or fitting surface area does not extend under the full length of the PoolMarker's saddle clamp (e.g., a 90° elbow joint). In those instances if you feel you want more strength you may glue the unit in place. In some cases professionals may choose to shorten the saddle clamp by cutting it.
3. Peel off and stick the appropriate adhesive label onto the flat Sign-Plate™ surface. Make sure the SignPlate™ surface is dry and be careful and pay attention in placing the labels because they cannot be repositioned. They are self-adhesive and their glue is waterproof and weatherproof. Then:
- 3(a). Peel off and stick a FLOW direction arrow in the open area of the PoolMarker sticker, or
- 3(b). Hand write any additional instructions or information you desire in the open area of the PoolMarker sticker using a permanent marker (which you really need to cover with a SnapShield to get it to last), or
- 3(c). Print out custom text with a portable labeling machine and stick it onto the open area of the PoolMarker sticker, or
- 3(d). Write the appropriate number in the # box in the
upper-left corner if you are coding an entire system
to an operation manual.
4. Slide
on a clear SnapShield to protect the label.
|
How can I permanently install PoolMarker?
Each PoolMarker firmly and tightly grips the pipe to which you are mounting it. Pool and spa systems typically do not vibrate enough to cause a PoolMarker to move over time. Therefore, leaving PoolMarkers unglued allows you to reposition them later.
Where desirable to avoid tampering or movement by vibration, PoolMarkers may be permanently glued in place with ordinary PVC cement. Applications on pipes other than PVC may require a different type of adhesive.
If you wish a permanent tamper-resistant installation, coat the entire inside with PVC cement, snap it onto the pipe, and very quickly position it.
Clear cement looks best on your system.
If you think you may ever want to
reposition a PoolMarker, you may wish to keep your
options open by first snapping the PoolMarker in place
and then brushing a light bead of cement along one edge
of the clamp where it intersects with the pipe; this
makes it much easier to move at a later time should you
wish to do so.
|
How should I best locate PoolMarkers on my system?
Place the PoolMarkers™ in visible locations and
in a logical pattern. Label the system as though it were
being labeled for a person who knows nothing about the
system, but must operate it by reading the labels. Then
proceed step by step through the operational process,
setting out instructions necessary to step through the
operational process. That way the system can be operated
by anyone, no matter who is present. Valves should be
marked as close to the valve as possible for clarity.
Pipes should be labeled to all be viewed from the same
direction where possible.
|
How can I protect against UV rays, tampering, and other types of label damage?
Use our SnapShield™ clear plastic label covers. They slide over the SignPlate and cover the label or your custom text to provide additional UV protection, and protection from damage or wear, chemicals, and tampering. They are manufactured from clear PVC.

How
can I combine PoolMarker™ with an operational manual
for my pool system?
Yes, easily.
You can download our free Swimming Pool
Operation Sequences Sheet and customize your manual
with your own instructions for others to refer
to.
PoolMarker adhesive labels each contain a small
shaded box in the upper-left corner. You may use
this box to number each valve or pool circuit,
and then refer to them by number on your instruction
sheet or a detailed manual you develop. Operators
most often have a single simple task they are
trying to accomplish, such as turn the heater
on or off, turn the spa on or off, draw only from
the main drain, or the like. Take each task, and
describe step by step how to operate the system
to do it.
|
| |
For example, "To turn fountain on,
turn on valve #__, and then shut off valve
# __; to shut off, reverse this procedure"
, or, "to have pump draw from main drain
only and not the scuppers, shut off valve
#__).
|
|
Fast Action How To's. The sequences are organized
by each task a user may want to perform, and step by
step instructions as to which valve to turn or switch
to throw in order to perform that specific task.
Some examples are :
- (1) turn on/off the heater,
- (2) turn on/off the spa,
- (3) adjust which jets the pump returns to.
Any contributions you wish to make to future additions
of the manual for the benefit of others would be appreciated.
They may be emailed to us. Legally, we need to note
that contributions are treated as "work for hire" w/o
compensation.
